Youth Futures Lab engages young people how to answer that question—by developing strategies in conversation with the communities where the forces influencing the world unfolds.
Scenario planning.
Cross-generational dialogue.
Real community context.
Not a simulation.
Not a classroom exercise.
A real-world practice of shaping the future.
Youth Futures Lab is the entry point into the East Bay Community Incubator—a place-based platform connecting youth development, entrepreneurship, and community building into one continuous system.
We don’t just prepare young people for the future.
We equip them to:
understand the forces shaping their world
think strategically about uncertainty
and participate in shaping what comes next
The goal isn’t exposure.
It’s capability.
We build strategic thinkers inside civic life.
1. Strategy is the foundation
Youth Futures Lab teaches:
how to map forces of change (STEEP)
how to work with uncertainty
how to construct and compare multiple futures
how to make decisions across those futures
This is the discipline of strategy—rarely taught, almost never practiced this early.
2. Learning happens inside community—not outside it
Participants don’t learn in isolation.
They sit alongside:
members of community clubs and associations
local business and civic leaders
experienced facilitators and strategists
As co-thinkers.
Because communities are not shaped by institutions alone—
they are shaped through associations.
This is the layer most programs miss.
3. This is not a program—it’s a system
Youth Futures Lab is one part of a larger cycle:
Build the leaders → Hear the community → Design the solutions
Youth Futures Lab → builds strategic capability
Community Conversations → define shared direction
Community Incubators → turn direction into action
Most programs end with ideas.
This creates continuity.
Participants move through a proven process:
Explore the questions that matter most
Map the forces shaping their community
Identify critical uncertainties
Imagine multiple possible futures
Build four distinct scenarios
Tell stories of those futures
Weave a shared narrative
Create action plans
The structure is guided.
The content comes from the participants themselves.
That’s what creates:
ownership
alignment
and real momentum
Each lab is four sessions.
But the real outcome is a pipeline:
from awareness → to practice → to leadership
from youth participation → to community stewardship
Youth Futures Lab connects young people to the people, tools, and institutions that shape their community—
so they don’t just imagine the future.
They learn how to build it.
